Haider Ackermann

The quintessential Belgian-trained designer – who trained at the revered Antwerp Academy before working at the house of Margiela – has built a niche for himself as a romantic, left-of-centre fashion force. Deconstructed, conceptual and intricate womenswear has proved his mainstay, with fans veering from the intellectual (Tilda Swinton) to the fashion obsessed. For his first – and for the time being – only foray into the world of menswear, South American designer Haider Ackermann gives the 2011 man a dose of indulgence and decadence, giving carefully selected retailers world wide the first glimpse. Taking his cue from pyjamas and nightwear Ackermann deconstructed suites to turn them into louche, debonair affairs and gave silk coats a dandyish touch, interpreting them as bed jackets with rich jewel tones.
